Fitwize 4 Kids is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization focused on youth development through
integrated fitness, nutrition, life skills, and leadership training. The mission of Fitwize is to
empower youth by increasing self-esteem, building a healthy lifestyle, and implementing proper
nutrition habits that improve their physical, emotional, and social health outcomes.

The Board supports Fitwize 4 Kids by providing mission-based leadership and strategic
governance. While day-to-day operations are led by Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Board-
CEO relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical
and expected.
Specific Board Member responsibilities include:
Leadership, Governance and Oversight
▪ Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO, particularly in the development and
implementation of the organization’s strategic plan
▪ Review agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings
▪ Attend all board and assigned committee meetings
▪ Serve on committees and complete special assignments
▪ Approve an annual budget, audit reports, and other business transactions
▪ Make sound, responsible, and accountable decisions
▪ Be informed of and meet all legal and fiduciary responsibilities
▪ Ensure fulfillment of board resolutions
▪ Measure and review outcomes and metrics to evaluate organizational performance,
effectiveness, efficiency, and impact
▪ Contribute to an annual CEO performance evaluation
▪ Represent the organization to stakeholders, including as an ambassador for the
organization
▪ Identify and recruit other well-qualified and high performing board members
▪ Ensure commitment to a diverse board and staff reflective of the community that the
organization serves
▪ Perform Board Member duties without remuneration
Fundraising
Board Members consider the organization a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts that
reflect that priority. One hundred percent (100%) of Board Members make an annual
contribution that is commensurate with their ability so that the organization can credibly solicit
contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals.

Qualifications
This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about the organization’s
mission and who has a track record of leadership. Board membership is a highly responsible
position requiring ethical practices, stewardship, and accountability.

▪ Integrity and credibility in all decisions and interactions
▪ A passion for improving the lives of persons in recovery
